"Exploring biodiversity" workshop with children

The ‘Exploring Biodiversity’ workshop is designed as a playful way for children to discover local biodiversity and identify existing species. Children participate by using child-friendly surveys and fun props to investigate and document the fauna and flora of a particular area. Adopting role-playing, each student is given a unique hero badge, becoming part of a superhero team with the mission of creating a space where biodiversity can thrive.

First, participants use binoculars and magnifying glasses to observe and identify species, marking them with stickers on a picture inventory. Next, they use a frame and camera to capture specific traits of the species they discover. Finally, using a base map and stickers, the children pinpoint the geographical locations of each species, exploring the unique characteristics of their habitats.

This activity allows children to explore their environment in a fun and creative way, while also serving as an educational tool to raise awareness of environmental challenges and opportunities. The goal is to engage participants in considering the current number of species and how to make the environment more welcoming to both existing and new species, ultimately boosting biodiversity. Additionally, through interviews, children are given the chance to express their experiences and feelings about the place, providing a meaningful and inclusive evaluation of the area's current condition.
